I am at an impasse. What Artistic Medium should I continue to pursue? I have sunk myself largely into an ambition to become a filmmaker for the past... decade almost. I do not think that I have made sufficient progress in that time. Something needs to change.
One of my first passions tied to a goal was to write a fantasy novel. I've had that desire since around grade 3, and remember frantically writing stories about different dragons tied to the seasons. They were most likely incoherent but I had a lot of energy tied to it and was excited. Ms. Ly, my english teacher at the time, wrote me a lovely note in 2005 encouraging me to keep writing fantastic stories. What a blessing a teacher with a good heart an be.
Up until my first year in university, that ambition to write a novel remained and then dissipated when I started considering film as a viable passion. I will share in depth the intoxications of film in another post, one of which was my passion and skill for photography, but let's settle on the fact that editing and music also sparked something within me and created the fever that was necessary for a new artists delusion.
Despite completing several short films, some of almost feature length, I don't think I've achieved anything with that fervor. I can blame myself, I can blame the current structure of the 'film market', I can blame this, that, and everything. **But something needs to change**.
