Storytelling is linked to meditation in several ways. On my mind currently is the idea of multitudes within a single person. I finished reading Steppenwolf by Herman Hesse recently, and though I'm going to need a second reading to fully grasp it, it's related to this. When you tell a story, whether you direct or write, you explore different projections of your mind through the characters you create and nurture. (Even if the character is inspired by another person you meet, you mesh them into your own brain and create a... deformed child). Every human being has millions of these versions within themselves, as explored in Steppenwolf. Normally, we try to stick to a single identity and definition of ourselves. But writing/storytelling allows us to explore some of those versions in a controlled, safe, environment. I imagine reading would be similar but with less self projection. Exploring these multitudes might allow better meditation, as embracing multitudes within yourself is basically diluting the sense of self, which is what all of these guru's are on about. Neat.
