*Ranjha ranjha kardi ve main aape ranjha hoyi* (Calling out for Ranjha for so long, I've myself become Ranjha) *Ranjha ranjha saddo ni mainu heer na aakho koyi* (Call me Ranjha now, don't call me Heer anymore) I have been hyperfixating on these lyrics for the past few days, which I first heard in the song [Ranjha Ranjha](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h26LNquysiw) from the bollywood film Raavan. Originally I thought this section was written by Gulzar, but discovered soon it was from the GOAT [[Bulleh Shah]] himself. And my interpretation is this: Call out to something, yearn for it so intensely, and you become it. Personally, I apply this as a metaphor for the all-consuming creative process and the idea that [[Art is Transformation]]. If I devote myself to something with such passion, like Heer to Ranjha, it is inevitable that it evokes change within my soul and I take on characteristics of the creation. So if I ever desire to create some radical shift in myself, creating a film about it is a good start. Or a novel. In the process of writing [[_SITE/Artemis and the Prince|Artemis and the Prince]] I've excavated memories and thoughts which I would normally have smothered. The creative process forces me to look at them clearly and without bias. It's forced me to endure pain, grow, and settle into a new skin (which I quite like). And so my soul is refined by this yearning to create.
